Bar Harbor Shoreline
This historic property is the home of Eamonn’s beloved friend, supporter, and long-time advocate for landscape architecture and ecological planning. When the storms of January 2024 scoured away the rocky shoreline near the house, we were eager to help restore the site and explore ways to make it more resilient to high seas.
The work began with a site visit to document the damages. The meeting also brought together the home owner, contractor, surveyor and town officials to discuss the path forward. Following the initial site visit, the team began simultaneously developing the design and confirming the approach to permitting. By doing these in parallel, we were able to craft the proposed solutions to meet permitting requirements and deadlines. Work began in early 2024 with temporary soil stabilization and the re-establishment of the native ground plane vegetation to protect exposed tree roots. Soon after that, once the local and state permits submitted by Tandem were approved, the earthwork contractor rebuilt the stone revetment. By January 2025, the shoreline was fully secured and the team’s focus has shifted to drainage improvements surrounding the house.
